Tenuta San Jacopo, Poggio ai Grilli 2024

Tenuta San Jacopo has been nestled in the hills of Cavriglia, on the border of Chianti and Valdarno, since 1737. The grapes come from organically certified vineyards at an altitude of 300 meters. An approachable Chianti Superiore that showcases what Sangiovese can achieve in its purest form.

What you smell
Cherry, raspberry, and a hint of blood orange peel. Beneath that, earthy tones and dried herbs.

What you taste
Red fruit and an earthy undertone, with fresh hints of mint and eucalyptus. The acidity provides energy and keeps the wine lively, while the tannins offer grip without drying out your mouth. Warm, slightly spicy finish.

How it's made
95% Sangiovese, 5% Merlot from organic vineyards. Hand-picked at the beginning of October, gentle pressing, and controlled-temperature fermentation in stainless steel. Full malolactic fermentation. Nine months of aging in stainless steel, followed by three to four months in the bottle. No oak, so the fruit remains prominent.

Serve
18 to 20 degrees Celsius. Decanting is not necessary. Pour into a generous Burgundy or universal red wine glass.

Pairs well with

  • Pasta with tomato-meat sauce: the fresh acidity cuts through the tomato and lifts the sauce.
  • Grilled chicken with rosemary: the herbal notes in the wine complement the rosemary, and the red fruit provides a lovely contrast to the grilled flavors.
  • Pecorino Toscano (young): a classic regional pairing, the soft saltiness of the cheese balances the acidity.
