Tenuta San Jacopo, Poggio ai Grilli 2023
Tenuta San Jacopo is located at an altitude of 300 meters in the hills of Cavriglia, Tuscany, and cultivates 12 hectares of organically certified vineyards. This Chianti Superiore is a modern, accessible Sangiovese that showcases the appellation's potential without any oak influence.
What you smell
Red cherry, raspberry, and a hint of blood orange peel. Behind that, earthy notes and spices.
What you taste
Juicy red fruit with a slight earthy undertone. Fresh mint and eucalyptus provide a cool twist. Lively acidity keeps it taut, the tannins provide grip without drying out your mouth. Warm, reasonably long finish.
How it's made
95% Sangiovese, 5% Merlot, organically grown. Hand-picked in early October. Gentle pressing, fermentation for 25 to 30 days at controlled temperature in stainless steel. Full malolactic fermentation. Nine months of aging in stainless steel, then 3 to 4 months in bottle. No wood, pure fruit and terroir.
Serving
At 18 to 20 degrees Celsius, in a Burgundy glass or universal red wine glass. Decanting not necessary.
Pairs well with
-
Pappardelle with wild ragu: the fresh acidity cuts through the richness of the dish, and the red fruit matches the taste of game.
-
Grilled lamb chops with rosemary: the spicy undertones in the wine complement the rosemary, and the tannins call for some fat and protein.
-
Pizza with salami and olives: juicy fruit and lively acidity stand up to spicy salami and salty olives.
