Quinta São Gião, Branco Escolha 2024
Family estate from Guimarães, in the Ave sub-region of Vinho Verde. The vineyards are on granite soil, which gives this white wine its fresh, crisp character. At 11.5% alcohol, it's a light, easy-drinking wine.
What you smell
White flowers and citrus. Think lemon and a hint of grapefruit.
What you taste
Fresh and vibrant, with a citrus acidity that keeps the juice taut without becoming sharp. Light-bodied, with a stony undertone from the granite soil and a surprisingly long finish.
How it's made
A blend of Loureiro (50%), Arinto (25%), Trajadura (20%), and Alvarinho (5%). The granite soil provides the mineral tension. Loureiro brings the floral aroma, Arinto the fresh acidity.
Serving
Serve chilled, between 6 and 8 degrees Celsius. Decanting not necessary.
Pairs well with
-
Grilled sardines: the citrus acidity cuts through the fatty fish.
-
Oysters: the stony undertone enhances the salty taste of shellfish.
-
Green salad with goat cheese: the freshness balances the creamy cheese.
