Quinta São Gião, Espumante Bruto Millésime 2020

Quinta São Gião is a family business located in Guimarães, in the Ave sub-region of Vinho Verde. This sparkling wine matured for 21 months on the lees, which is unusually long for the region. This explains its creamy texture and fine, persistent bubbles.

What you smell
Citrus peel and some floral notes, with a light toast. Underlying hints of shortbread and roasted nuts.

What you taste
Creamy, round texture with a fine mousse. The fresh acidity keeps it crisp and provides a long, saline finish. Well-balanced, not heavy.

How it's made
100% Arinto grown on granite soil. Traditional method (secondary fermentation in the bottle) with 21 months of lees aging, which imparts the bready notes and creaminess.

Serving
Serve chilled, between 6 and 8°C. In a tulip-shaped glass, the aromas are better expressed than in a narrow flute.

Pairs well with

  • Oysters or other shellfish: the saline finish and fresh acidity cut through the briny, creamy texture of shellfish.
  • Fried tempura vegetables: the bubbles and acidity cleanse the palate after each oily bite.
  • Young goat cheese: the citrus notes mirror the freshness of the cheese, while the creaminess softens its sharpness.
