Quinta São Gião, Alvarinho & Trajadura Grande Escolha 2024

Family estate from Guimarães in northern Portugal. The vineyards are on granite soil, which gives the wine a crisp, fresh signature. Grande Escolha stands for the house's better selection.

What you smell
Citrus and white fruit, with a tropical hint of, for example, pineapple and passion fruit.

What you taste
Soft and full-bodied, with a fresh acidity that keeps the wine lively. The granite soil gives a salty, stony undertone. The finish lingers long.

How it's made
70% Alvarinho for body and fruit, 30% Trajadura for suppleness. The grapes grow on granite soil in the Ave sub-region, which explains the crisp, mineral style.

Serving
Serve chilled, between 8 and 10°C. Decanting is not necessary. A standard white wine glass is sufficient.

Pairs well with

  • Grilled sardines: the fresh acidity cuts through the oily flesh of the fish.
  • White fish ceviche: the citrus in the wine enhances the lime in the dish.
  • Young goat cheese: the salty undertone beautifully complements the fresh, creamy cheese.
