Akrille, Catarratto Lucido

Catarratto is the most widely planted white grape in Sicily, but for a long time, it was mainly used for bulk wine. Akrille shows what the variety can achieve when taken seriously: a white wine with body and a saline edge.

Aroma
Yellow fruits such as apricot and white peach, with a light floral hint of orange blossom.

Taste
Full and broad on the palate, with a salty, stony undertone that keeps the wine fresh and lively. The finish lingers, inviting a second sip.

Production
Grapes from well-ripened selections, harvested between early August and early September. After gentle pressing, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks (at 12 to 15 degrees Celsius, for approximately 15 to 20 days). The wine then matures in steel for about two more months and rests in the bottle for a few months. No wood, resulting in pure fruit and freshness.

Serving
Serve chilled, between 12 and 14 degrees. Decanting is not necessary. A standard white wine glass is sufficient.

Pairs well with

  • Fried fish: the saline undertone mirrors the salty crust, and the body stands up to the fat.
  • Chicken or other white meat: enough structure to complement the dish without overpowering it.
  • Fresh cheese such as ricotta or mozzarella: the fresh fruit cuts through the creaminess.
