Carlo Schmitt, vom Schiefer Riesling trocken 2025

The grapes come from plots around Leiwen and Trittenheim, with vines aged 25 to 55 years. The subsoil of sandy loam and blue slate gives this Mosel Riesling its light, elegant character. With 11.5% alcohol, it's a wine for everyday moments without compromise.

What you smell
Citrus and green apple, with a hint of peach. Beneath that, a cool, stony note.

What you taste
Fresh and light on the tongue, with lively acidity that makes the wine crisp and refreshing. A slight sweet edge balances the acidity. The salty, stony undertone of the slate lingers in a clean finish.

How it's made
100% Riesling. Spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in stainless steel, followed by long aging on the lees. This provides extra texture without wood overpowering the fruit.

Serve
Well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees Celsius. Decanting is not necessary. A standard white wine glass is sufficient.

Pairs well with

  • Sushi and sashimi: the fresh acidity and light body complement raw fish without overpowering it.
  • Grilled asparagus with lemon: the citrus notes pick up the lemon's acidity, and the salty undertone matches the vegetable.
  • Thai green curry: the minimal residual sweetness counteracts the spiciness and keeps things fresh.
