Accornero, Giulin Barbera del Monferrato

Accornero has been making wine since 1897 in Vignale Monferrato, the heart of the Barbera region. The Giulin comes from vineyards at an altitude of 210 meters, with an east-facing exposure, planted between 1980 and 2000. A classic Barbera that shows why this grape forms the backbone of Piedmont.

What you smell
Red fruit, cherry and plum, with a light spiciness from the barrel.

What you taste
Juicy and fresh, with a lively acidity that makes the wine feel light on the tongue despite its robust body. The tannins are soft and provide structure without being drying. A salty note in the finish makes it surprisingly good with food.

How it's made
100% Barbera, traditionally vinified with submerged cap and programmed pump-overs. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation. Twelve months of aging in stainless steel and 500-liter French oak tonneaux, which provides roundness without overpowering the wine.

Serving
Serve at 16°C in a medium-sized red wine glass. Decanting is not necessary; allowing it to breathe for half an hour is sufficient.

Delicious with

  • Tagliatelle with ragu: the fresh acidity cuts through the rich sauce, keeping each bite lively.
  • Grilled lamb chops: the red fruit pairs beautifully with the seasoned meat, and the tannins have enough grip for the crust.
  • Aged Parmigiano: the salty, umami aspect of the cheese connects with the wine's saline undertone.
