Accornero, Derthona 2023

Timorasso is an almost forgotten Piedmontese grape that has been taken seriously again in recent years. The vineyards around Tortona produce a white wine with body and tension, a counterpart to the region's more famous red wines. This is the first year Accornero has released this cuvée.

What you smell
White flowers and citrus peel, with a fresh, slightly spicy undertone.

What you taste
Tight and exciting, with a lively acidity that keeps the wine upright. The finish is long and harmonious, without being heavy. A white wine with structure, suitable for drinking now but also for keeping for a few years.

How it's made
100% Timorasso, hand-picked in September. Gentle pressing and fermentation in stainless steel, without oak influence. Then two years of bottle aging before release. Yield of 70 hl per hectare.

Serve
Serve at 8 to 10 degrees in a medium-sized white wine glass. Decanting is not necessary, although it gains complexity if left open for half an hour.

Pairs well with

  • Risotto with lemon and parmesan: the citrus notes in the wine pick up the lemon, the structure stands up to the creamy rice.
  • Baked sea bass with herb oil: the fresh acidity cuts through the fat of the fish and the floral nose matches the herbs.
  • Grilled chicken with rosemary: enough body to handle white meat, the tension keeps the dish light.
