Accornero, Brigantino

Accornero has been making this Brigantino since 1982 in Vignale Monferrato, a village in the Piedmontese Monferrato. From a single, almost one-hectare, east-facing vineyard, planted in 1979. A lightly sparkling, sweet red wine made from Malvasia di Casorzo: a regional specialty rarely found outside Piedmont.

What you smell
Rose petals, strawberry and raspberry juice. A hint of violets and cloves in the background.

What you taste
Light and sweet, with juicy red fruit and a fine fizz that breaks up the sweetness. Low alcohol, little tannin, so soft on the palate without heaviness. Easy to drink, fresh and crisp.

How it's made
100% Malvasia di Casorzo from a single plot in Vignale Monferrato (216 m altitude, east-facing, yield 70 hl/ha). Fermentation on the skins at low temperature to retain color and aroma. No malolactic fermentation, which preserves freshness. Cold stabilization and bottling in January.

Serving
Well chilled, around 4°C. Do not decant. A regular white wine glass is sufficient.

Pairs well with

  • Strawberry tart or fruit tart: the red fruit in the wine enhances the fruit in the dessert, the bubbles cut through the cream.
  • Krumiri or dry biscuits: classic Piedmontese combination, the light sweetness complements the buttery biscuit without overpowering it.
  • Fresh summer fruit with mascarpone: its freshness and low alcohol make it ideal as a light dessert or aperitif on a warm evening.
