Accornero, Bricco del Bosco Vigne Vecchie

Accornero produces this wine from Grignolino vines planted in 1961, on a southeast-facing slope in Vignale Monferrato. Yields are deliberately kept low at 35 hl per hectare, and the wine matures for 30 months in French tonneaux followed by 24 months in bottle. Grignolino is a challenging grape rarely treated with such seriousness, and this is one of its benchmarks.

What you smell
Dried flowers and blueberry jam, followed by eucalyptus, black pepper, and clove.

What you taste
Firm and enveloping, with fresh acidity that keeps the wine lively. The tannins are present but fine, providing grip without drying out your mouth. Long, elegant finish.

How it's made
100% Grignolino from old vines planted in 1961. Skin maceration for 40 days, which is unusually long for this grape and explains its structure. Afterwards, 30 months in French oak tonneaux and 24 months of bottle aging before release.

Serving suggestion
Serve at 16°C. Decanting an hour beforehand helps to develop the spicy notes. A Burgundy glass allows the aromatics to unfold.

Pairs well with

  • Vitello tonnato: the fresh acidity cuts through the tuna mayonnaise, while the fine tannins complement the veal.
  • Stuffed tortelloni with sage and butter: the spicy pepper and clove notes align with the sage, and the wine remains light enough not to overpower the dish.
  • Grilled duck with cherry sauce: the blueberry jam in the wine echoes the sauce, and its structure stands up to the rich meat.
