Vantorosso, Valpolicella Classico D.O.C. 2023

Vantorosso is a small family project in Fumane, the heart of the historical Classica zone. This wine is made to be drunk young: no oak aging, no fuss. Pure fruit from one of the better vintages of recent years.

What you smell
Sour cherries, red roses and a hint of redcurrant. Fresh and direct, without frills.

What you taste
Light-bodied with lively acidity that gives the wine drive. Hardly any tannin, so no dryness. The finish is short but clear, with a light bitter almond note typical of Corvina.

How it's made
Blend of Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella, hand-harvested at the end of September. Fully vinified in steel tanks to preserve the fruit. Short bottle aging before release.

Serve
At 14-16°C, or experiment with lightly chilled (12°C) as a thirst quencher in warmer weather. No decanter needed. A standard red wine glass will suffice.

Pairs well with

  • Antipasti with mortadella and coppa: the freshness cuts through the fat, the fruit embraces the seasoning.
  • Pasta with ragù: the lightness of the wine allows the meat sauce to shine without competing.
  • Grilled sea bass with tomato: lightly chilled, the sour cherry works surprisingly well alongside the umami of roasted tomato.
