Te Mata Estate, Coleraine 2021

Te Mata Estate is New Zealand's oldest wine producer, located in Hawke's Bay since 1896. The Coleraine is their flagship wine, made since 1982 from the estate's oldest vineyards. The 2021 vintage is dubbed "The One" by the house itself, one of the best vintages ever produced.

What you smell
Blackcurrants and blackberries, fresh roses (a signature of this wine), thyme and cedar wood. Complex and inviting.

What you taste
Rich raspberries and mocha, with fine herbal notes. The tannins are velvety smooth but provide enough grip to carry the wine for many years. The acidity keeps everything lively. The finish lingers for minutes.

How it's made
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, hand-picked. The wine matures for 17 months in French oak, which explains its depth and spice without overpowering the fruit.

16-18 degrees. Decanting is recommended if opening now, for at least an hour. A large Burgundy glass allows the aromas to develop.
