Vantorosso, Recioto della Valpolicella Classico 2022

Recioto is the original form of sweet wine from Valpolicella, made for centuries in the hills around Fumane. While Amarone ferments dry, with Recioto, fermentation is stopped so that the natural grape sugars are retained. An artisanal product with limited availability.

What you smell
Dried cherries, plums, and figs, with warm spicy notes like cinnamon and cloves underneath. Intense but not cloying.

What you taste
Full and velvety, with a sweetness supported by enough freshness to prevent it from being overwhelming. The tannins are softly present, providing just enough grip. Long, warm finish with dried fruit. Can age for years but is already accessible now.

How it's made
Blend of Corvina (50%), Corvinone (45%), and Rondinella (5%). After hand-harvesting, the grapes are dried on racks until they lose almost half their weight, ensuring extreme concentration. Aged for 14 months in wood, followed by 12 months in the bottle. Alcohol 13%, residual sugar 110 g/l.

Serving
14-16°C. Use a smaller digestif glass to concentrate the aromas. Decanting is not necessary.

Great with

  • Gorgonzola dolce: the salty, creamy cheese and sweet wine enhance each other without competing.
  • Chocolate cake: the dark fruit notes in the wine align perfectly with pure cocoa.
  • Cantucci or sbrisolona: classic Italian, the dry, almond cookies call for a sweet dip.
