Neri, Etna Rosso DOC 2024

This red comes from the eastern slopes of Etna, around Linguaglossa, at an altitude of 700 meters. The vineyards are 5 to 25 years old and are rooted in volcanic soil. This altitude and soil give the wine freshness and a recognizable stony character.

What you smell
Ripe red fruit with a hint of sweet spices. Clear and inviting, without being heavy.

What you taste
Smooth and balanced on the palate, with a saline, stony undertone from the volcanic soil. The tannins provide structure without drying out your mouth. Fresh acidity keeps it lively, with a pleasant, long finish.

How it's made
95% Nerello Mascalese and 5% Nerello Cappuccio. Classic red vinification in open vats with pumping over, 8 to 10 days of skin contact. Afterwards, five months of aging in stainless steel, which preserves the fresh fruit and minerality instead of adding woody notes.

Serve
Serve at 16 to 18 °C. Decanting is not necessary. A large wine glass helps release the aromas.

Pairs well with

  • Grilled red meat: the fresh acidity cuts through fat and the tannins complement the bite of the meat.
  • Roasted vegetables: the stony undertone aligns with the smoky, sweet notes of roasted vegetables.
  • Poultry with herbs: the light body doesn't overpower white meat, and the herbaceous nose connects with thyme or rosemary.

Scores
James Suckling: 93
