Gaston Burtin, Hommage à Gaston Burtin Rosé

A champagne from Épernay with grapes from ten villages, built around Meunier. The base comes from 2020, a year with a wet start followed by heat and drought, resulting in a smaller but healthy harvest. Twenty percent reserve wines from a solera provide continuity year to year.

What you smell
Rose petals and red fruits: strawberry and raspberry. Beneath that, a creamy note reminiscent of strawberry dessert.

What you taste
Juicy red fruit and a lively, fresh start. The fine, persistent mousse makes it smooth in the mouth, with a creamy texture and a long finish. Freshness and fruit balance each other.

How it's made
73% Meunier, 16% Chardonnay, and 11% Pinot Noir, of which 12% was fermented as red wine for color and fruit. 20% reserve wines from a solera. A minimum of three years of bottle aging. Dosage 8 g/l, keeping it dry with a slight roundness.

Serving
Serve at 8 to 10 degrees Celsius. Do not decant. Use a tulip-shaped wine glass instead of a narrow flute, allowing the aromas to fully develop.

Pairs well with

  • Chicken fillet with lemongrass and bell pepper: the fresh acidity cuts through the spicy sauce, and the red fruit complements the bell pepper.
  • Lamb curry: the creamy mousse and fruit soften the spiciness and provide a counterbalance to the rich meat.
  • Sea bream tartare with lemon, avocado, and chili: the lively freshness elevates the raw fish dish and keeps the chili in check.
