Gaston Burtin, Brut Hommage à Gaston Burtin

This Épernay champagne is made from grapes sourced from 50 villages, with 2019 as the base year. Almost half (49%) consists of reserve wines from a solera, ensuring consistent style year after year. A minimum of three years of lees aging provides depth without sacrificing freshness.

What you smell
Ripe stone fruit like peach and apricot, with a bready hint of brioche.

What you taste
Stone fruit and a touch of honey, with a round, generous mouthfeel. The fine, persistent bubbles and fresh acidity keep everything in balance, making the wine smooth to drink and not heavy.

How it's made
A blend of 53% Meunier, 26% Chardonnay, and 21% Pinot Noir, supplemented with 49% solera-aged reserve wines. A minimum of three years of cellar aging and a dosage of 8 g/l, just enough to round off the freshness.

Serving
Serve chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a tulip-shaped glass. Decanting is not necessary.

Pairs well with

  • Toast with smoked salmon: the fresh acidity cuts through the fat of the fish and keeps your palate fresh.
  • Fried shrimp or tempura: the bubbles and freshness break through the fat of the fried food, making each bite light.
  • Young cheese or mild poultry: the honey and brioche notes complement the soft, creamy flavors.
