Es Fangar Vins, N'Amarat 2015
Es Fangar is an organic estate in the southeast of Mallorca, in the small appellation of Pla i Llevant. N'Amarat is centered around Callet, an indigenous Mallorcan grape, complemented by international varieties. This 2015 vintage matured for 32 months in French oak, which is quite long and gives the wine extra time to integrate.
What you smell
Raspberries in syrup, Mediterranean herbs, liquorice, and balsamic. Behind that, cocoa, leather, and a hint of white truffle.
What you taste
Intense and well-built, with a medium body. The tannins are present but polished, providing grip without drying out your mouth. Fresh acidity balances the ripe fruit flavour; the oak is fully integrated. Long, spicy finish.
How it's made
Organically grown Callet (60%), Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. 32 months maturation in French oak barrels. Vegan certified.
Serving
16 to 18°C. Decanting for an hour benefits this wine, given its age and long barrel ageing. Pour into a large Burgundy glass.
Pairs well with
-
Oven-roasted lamb shoulder with rosemary: the spicy notes of the wine complement the rosemary, and the tannins cut through the fatty meat.
-
Grilled portobello with thyme and garlic: the earthy, umami-rich mushroom beautifully plays with the truffle and leather notes of the wine.
-
Aged Manchego with quince paste: the salty cheese lifts the ripe fruit, while the quince highlights the balsamic aspect of the wine.
