Grattamacco, Bolgheri Superiore 2015
Grattamacco has been one of the founding fathers of Bolgheri since 1977, when the region was barely on the map. The 2015 is considered an exceptionally ripe vintage for the Tuscan coast, with perfect conditions for full grape ripeness without loss of freshness. This magnum bottle offers additional aging potential.
What you smell
Ripe blackcurrants and cherries, with undertones of cedar wood, tobacco, and Mediterranean herbs like rosemary and thyme. Warm and inviting, without becoming overripe.
What you taste
Full-bodied and rich, with a firm structure that fills your mouth without overwhelming it. The tannins are fully integrated: you feel them as a velvety texture, not as dryness. A salty, mineral undertone keeps everything fresh, and the finish lingers for minutes. Already accessible, but can certainly age for another ten years.
How it's made
Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sangiovese, fermented in open wooden vats. Matured for eighteen months in French barriques, followed by a minimum of one year of bottle aging before release.
Serve
Serve at 18°C. Decanting for an hour brings out its layers. A large burgundy glass works best.
Pairs well with
-
Braised wild boar: the earthy, spicy flavors of the meat find a perfect echo in the wine's Mediterranean herbal notes.
-
Grilled lamb chops with thyme: the grilled fat and herbs match the full body and cedar wood.
-
Mushroom risotto with truffle: the umami and creaminess are lifted by the ripe tannins and minerality of the wine.
