Domaine Ricardelle de Lautrec, Margot 2023

Ricardelle de Lautrec is located in the Languedoc, just outside Carcassonne. The estate works organically and focuses on accessible wines with character. Margot is their entry-level wine: a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, intended for early drinking.

What you smell
Ripe red berries, a hint of blackberry, soft spiciness, and a touch of vanilla in the background.

What you taste
Smooth and undeniably friendly. The tannins are present but fully polished, making the wine effortlessly drinkable. A light freshness keeps everything in balance. The finish is warm and spicy, with a modest length.

How it's made
Blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, organically grown. Short aging in wood provides that subtle vanilla note without overshadowing the fruit character.

Serve
16-18°C. Open the bottle an hour before drinking to allow the aromas to develop better. Decanting is not necessary.

Great with

  • Mushroom stew: the earthy notes of the mushrooms complement the warm spiciness of the wine.
  • Grilled lamb with rosemary: the fat of the meat softens the modest tannins, and the herbs enhance each other.
  • Aged cheese: the creaminess of the cheese matches the round texture of the wine.

Languedoc-Roussillon is de grootste wijnstreek van Frankrijk en leverde lang vooral goedkope liters. In de koele hoek rond Limoux gebeurt iets anders: daar staan Chardonnay, Pinot Noir en Chenin op hoogte, met Atlantische wind in plaats van mediterrane hitte.
