Domaine Ricardelle de Lautrec, Scène n°5 Orange Wine 2025

Ricardelle de Lautrec is an organic estate in the Languedoc that experiments with various winemaking styles. With Scène n°5, they treat Chardonnay like a red wine: prolonged skin contact gives the wine its coppery color and unexpected texture.

What you smell
Dried apricot, orange peel, a hint of ginger and chamomile. Warmer and fuller than you'd expect from Chardonnay.

What you taste
A slight grip that envelops your tongue, similar to strong tea. The freshness of white wine is still there, but with a structure you'd normally find in reds. Dry, with a long finish of dried fruit.

How it's made
100% Chardonnay. After pressing, the juice macerates on the skins for a long time, a process that extracts color, tannins, and texture into the wine. Organically grown.

Serving
Between 12 and 14°C, not too cold. A Burgundy glass works well. Decanting is not necessary, but do let it breathe in the glass for a moment.

Pairs well with

  • Thai green curry: the wine's grip cuts through the richness of coconut milk, while its fruitiness tempers the heat.
  • Aged Comté with walnuts: the nutty cheese echoes the warm tones in the wine, and its structure stands up to the fat.
  • Roasted cauliflower with harissa: the smoky, spicy flavors call for a wine with body and texture, not a crisp white.
