Sebastian Beaumont crafts this Pinotage from Arturo's Vineyard in Bot River, a historic vineyard on Bokkeveld shale soil. The cool maritime influences of the region ensure slow ripening, resulting in a more elegant style than typically expected from Pinotage.

What you smell
Fresh red cherries, blackberries, and a hint of smoked spices. Subtle woody notes in the background.

What you taste
Medium-bodied with juicy red fruit as a central theme. The tannins are fine and provide grip without being drying. Vibrant acidity keeps everything fresh, the finish is clean and refreshing. Not a heavy, overripe Pinotage, but a polished version with finesse.

How it's made
100% Pinotage from old vines. Matured for 10 months in French oak barrels, 20% of which were new. The oak adds subtle complexity without overpowering the fruit.

Serve
16 to 18°C. Decanting for half an hour opens up the aromas. A large Burgundy glass works well.

• Mushroom risotto: the earthy tones from the shale soil mirror the umami of the mushrooms.
