Tenuta Tignanello, Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva 2020

The Antinori family has been making wine in Tuscany for 26 generations. This Riserva comes from the Tignanello estate in the heart of Chianti Classico, one of the region's most prestigious vineyards. The 2020 vintage matured for twelve months in oak and another year in the bottle before release.

What you smell
Fresh red fruit, lavender, and mallow. Beneath that, white chocolate and subtle spicy notes.

What you taste
Silky smooth and full-bodied on the palate, with a lively acidity that keeps the wine fresh. The tannins are polished: they provide structure without drying. Long finish with white pepper, cocoa, and a floral echo.

How it's made
Sangiovese from Tignanello's Chianti Classico vineyards. After gentle pressing, the wine matures for twelve months in oak barrels, followed by another year of bottle aging.

Serving
16 to 18 degrees Celsius. Half an hour in a decanter will allow the aromas of fruit and chocolate to develop better. A large Burgundy glass works well.

Pairs well with

  • Bistecca alla Fiorentina: the polished tannins cut through the fat of the meat, while the spicy notes enhance its grilled character.
  • Pasta with wild game ragout or mushrooms: the earthy undertones in the wine seamlessly complement the umami of game and fungi.
  • Aged Pecorino or Parmesan: the saltiness of the cheese balances the ripeness of the fruit and brings out the cocoa notes.

Scores

  • Wine Spectator: 95/100
  • Falstaff: 93/100
  • Luca Maroni: 92/100

Toscane draait om Sangiovese, maar de streek is veel breder dan dat. Van de hooggelegen wijngaarden van Chianti Classico tot de zilte kust van Bolgheri: elke plek geeft de druif een ander karakter.
