Château La Nerthe, Clos de Beauvenir Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2017

Château La Nerthe has been producing wine in Châteauneuf-du-Pape since 1560. The Clos de Beauvenir is their top white wine, sourced from a plot with ancient woods and a natural spring. This microclimate ensures that the grapes retain freshness despite the heat of the southern Rhône.

What you smell
Ripe pineapple, lemon peel, and white blossoms. Beneath that, a smoky, stony note that adds depth.

What you taste
Full and creamy on the palate, but with a crisp acidity that keeps everything in balance. The wine has weight without being heavy. Long, saline finish with a slightly bitter almond note. Can age for years, but is already approachable.

How it's made
Hand-picked grapes (primarily Roussanne and Clairette). Matured for seven months in large wooden barrels, which adds texture without overshadowing the fruit.

Serving
Between 10°C and 12°C. Use a spacious white wine glass to allow the complex aromas to develop.

Pairs well with

  • Foie gras on brioche: the richness of the wine matches the fattiness, while the acidity cuts through.
  • Chicken or veal in cream sauce: creamy with creamy, the wine adds freshness to the dish.
  • Aged Comté: the nutty cheese picks up the subtle almond notes.

Scores

  • Vivino: 4.3 / 5
