Tormaresca, Bocca di Lupo Aglianico 2018 Magnum

Bocca di Lupo is the flagship wine of Tormaresca, the Apulian estate of the Antinori family. The Aglianico grapes come from the Murgia hills around Castel del Monte, where chalky soils and cool nights keep this naturally powerful grape in check. Magnum format gives the wine extra aging potential.

What you smell
Ripe blackberries and plums, dark chocolate, liquorice, and dried Mediterranean herbs. Intense yet restrained.

What you taste
A full-bodied, layered wine with a firm grip that fills your mouth without overpowering. The freshness keeps everything in balance and prolongs the taste. Already accessible, but with room to develop for years to come.

How it's made
100% Aglianico. After fermentation, the wine matures for 15 months in French and Hungarian oak barrels, followed by another 12 months of bottle aging.

Serving
Between 16 and 18°C. Decant for at least an hour: the tannins will soften and the aromas will open up.

Pairs well with

  • Roasted lamb with garlic and rosemary: the fatty lamb softens the tannins, the herbs complement the spicy-sweet character of the wine.
  • Braised game (venison or wild boar): the deep flavour of game can stand up to the concentration of this wine; they enhance each other.
  • Aged Pecorino: the salty, spicy cheese brings out the fruity side of the wine.
